A Bit Smitten

We rounded out our tour of Massachusetts with our last night in Cape Cod at Shawme Crowell Campground. Of course you can’t stay in a small adorable town like Sandwich and not stop at local ice creamery. Before heading back to our campsite, we sat on the front lawn and I enjoyed my peanut butter oreo waffle cone and Franklin enjoyed his pup sundae. We woke up early this morning, packed everything up in record time and hit the road. On our way north we stopped in Plymouth for a look at that Rock, a quick cruise through Boston (I’m coming back for you), then a stop in Salem to channel my inner witch and finally said goodbye and headed to New Hampshire.

I have to admit that I was kind of smitten with Mass. They have the friendliest people we’ve seen in awhile, they use the shoulder as a passing lane, they have self-serve OR full service gas stations and there are signs on the entrances to freeways that say no walking, no biking and no horses, portrayed as icons. Every town is lined with colonial style white houses with black shutters that have been there for centuries. The lawns are all perfectly manicured and the store fronts untouched as if they were selling vape pens in the 19th century. It’s very historical and very sophisticated. The town hall is always adorned with beautiful columns. The steeples on the churches can be seen from the next town over and there are always benches every few hundred feet to sit and enjoy the scenery. Not to mention all the water from the ponds, to bays to the ocean.

Plymouth Rock is inside that building

I was welcomed into Plymouth with roughly ten “good mornings,” a record and probably more directed at Franklin than myself, but I’ll take it. We are sad to leave, however, with only a couple more nights until we reach Acadia National Park in Maine, are sadness will soon change back to excitement.

Two thumbs up Massachusetts! Keep being you!
