Sunset

Welcome to New Mexico! Someone gave the job of cloud creation during sunsets to Steven Spielberg and only allowed him to use cotton candy as his medium. The sunset I witnessed today was a three phase masterpiece. The first phase is the initial sun going down, the beginning of the transformation. You begin to see colors changing, bright light reflecting off the opposite mountains, the typical signals that the sun is in fact setting.

Then before you know it, phase two has commenced in which your attention is pulled away from the direction of the actual sun setting and to the sky surrounding you. This is where Steven Spielberg’s creative genius comes in to play. The clouds are literally various flavors of cotton candy all swirled together in different patterns constantly changing, moving and shifting hues as if you were watching a painting being created layer by layer.

Then the third part in which you have begun your walk home because there is no way it could possibly get any better and by the time you have returned to your campsite, the sky in the direction of the sun setting is on fire with the brightest colors you can imagine.  I think I have heard that the sunsets in New Mexico are unmatched… point proven New Mexico, quit showing off.

To continue with this evening’s festivities, we have a blue moon rising, the brightest Mars in over 10 years and Saturn showing. An evening sky fit for a Queen or just Franklin and me… don’t worry, we will enjoy every minute!
